1. Living, Breathing, London
In one of the most ambitious and significant new developments in the UK, a brand new neighbourhood is being created alongside the River Thames at Barking Riverside London. The 443 acre site, featuring two kilometres of prime river-front living, is located close to the heart of the capital, with everything London has to offer right on your doorstep.
2. Riverside Living
The development features beautiful and highly sought-after Thames riverside frontage. It is centrally located within the London Riverside Area which covers a large swathe of East London, and is part of a project to create a low-carbon region in Greater London. It’s one of the largest development sites in the UK and one of the largest brownfield regeneration developments in Europe.
3. Ecology/Wildlife on site
Brownfield sites are quickly reclaimed by nature, and the development itself has been designed to retain and nurture the unique ecology of the area. With a wide mix of habitat areas, ranging from urban, to wetlands, mudflats, creeks, brooks, ponds and the river itself, the resident wildlife includes 40 species of breeding birds, water voles, the rare bombardier beetle, as well as common seals and myriad insects.
4. Open Space/Recreational facilites
Through careful design, plenty of open areas have been incorporated into the 400 acre development, including green spaces, a network of cycle and walkways, and areas dedicated to the existing ecology. The newly planted trees and shrubs, and the well-defined public spaces provide focal points for community interaction, recreation and play for all ages.
5. A new train station
Already well served by public transport links, in future the development will benefit from a new strategic rail connection to be located in the centre of the site. This will connect to Barking Town Centre as part of a new rail project extending the London Overground network to Barking Riverside London. This will bring travel time to the City down to just 22 minutes.
6. Excellent Transport
The East London Transit, a high quality bus service, offers a fast and direct link between Ilford, Barking and Dagenham Dock. This connects Barking Riverside London to Barking town centre transport interchange. During the development, a brand new rail station will be built with a bus and river transport interchange, bringing even faster links into central London.
7. Sustainable Homes
The development will eventually comprise 10,800 homes, all with impressive eco-credentials and contemporary architectural design, set within striking, landscaped surroundings. A mix of styles and living spaces will be provided. Stage one includes three and four-bed houses along with one, two and three-bedroom apartments. Stage two is a mix of family housing and riverside apartments, while stages three and four are predominantly apartments with riverside views.
8. Retail & Commercial
As well as homes, Barking Riverside London will feature 65,000sq.m. of commercial floor space for retail, community and leisure facilities. This will bring shopping, restaurants, cafés, as well as sports and recreation facilities right to your doorstep. The area will be as alive at night as it is during the day, with an ambition to create a new night-time economy as part of the development.
9. Seven schools in the development
The educational needs of the community will be met by seven schools across the development. These include a secondary school, five primary schools and a Special Educational Needs (SEN) school. The secondary school, opening in September 2017, will be the largest Free School in the UK with places for 1700 pupils..
10. Healthy New Town
Barking Riverside London has been selected as a Healthy New Town, designed to help residents live longer, healthier and happier lives. This is a flagship programme, run by NHS England, to dramatically improve the health of the population and to integrate health and care services within newly built communities. Barking Riverside London is one of ten towns across the country to be selected and the only one in London.
